Lloyd’s Register North America Opens Center of Excellence for Marine Training

Lloyd’s Register North America, Inc. held an open house for its newly expanded offices in Fort Lauderdale on February 25, unveiling a modern training facility that will host an array of award-winning marine training courses and topical seminars for clients and industry associates. With the opening of this facility, the Lloyd’s Register Group of companies will advance its global enterprise of regional centers of excellence – facilitating consistent, accredited marine courses across the globe and delivering vital marine knowledge and expertise to the industry.

The new training facility in Fort Lauderdale is the latest addition to a global training strategy and highlights plans to broaden learning opportunities for the maritime industry in North America. Recognized by leading organizations as a key means of staying up to date with regulations, technology, and industry best practice, the Lloyd’s Register Group’s marine training courses are world-renowned for relevant content and quality of instructors who are trained under stringent guidelines from the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and other quality standards.

Delegates in the Fort Lauderdale courses, who are typically leaders in their respective industry segments, will enjoy an improved training experience with state-of-the-art equipment, greater comfort, better work arrangements, and improved acoustics. To complement the selection of standard marine courses, Lloyd’s Register North America will launch a seminar series with guest speakers discussing important emerging issues such as ballast water management, the new Maritime Labor Convention from the International Labor Organization, ship-energy services, risk-management solutions, solutions for today’s market trends, environmental-management systems, and other topics. “By offering these seminars we can provide mid-level and senior managers with a brief but comprehensive overview of emerging maritime issues, and offer ways to help them solve the problems that will inevitably arise,” said Rick Ferraro, Client Training Manager, Lloyd’s Register Americas. The seminar series will be held throughout the Americas in the coming year, and Fort Lauderdale will be the premiere location.

“We continue to invest in our capabilities and capacity to serve our clients’ needs and contribute to the safety and quality of the marine industry,” said Tim Protheroe, Regional Marine Manager, Lloyd’s Register Americas, Inc. “It has never been more important to ensure standards are maintained, and we look forward to sharing and enhancing knowledge on technical and business aspects of the marine business throughout the Americas.”
