A new guide brochure issued by the Washington State Tourism Office aims to help cruise passengers in Seattle find interesting destinations near the city.
The guide lists five activity destinations either a short drive or short ferry ride from downtown Seattle, including the surrounding coastal communities which can also be accessed by seaplane.
Local festivals listed include the Gig Harbor Chowder Cook Off and Gig Harbor Quilt Festival, the Festival of Family Farms in La Conner, the Cranberrian Fair on Long Beach Peninsula, and Wild Mushroom Festival in Long Beach.
There is also the 270-foot Snoqualmie Falls that offers hiking trails and spa treatments. Nearby are little towns with cultural festivals such as the North Bend Farmer’s Market, Outdoor Quilt Show in Duvall, winemaking demonstrations at the Salish Lodge in Snoqualmie, and the Northwest Railway Museum’s Halloween Train, also in Snoqualmie.
Wine Country is only a 25-minute drive from Seattle. More than 25 wineries are located near quaint bend and breakfasts and five-star lodges.
Mt. Baker is an hour and half away but offers unparalleled hiking, mountain biking and outdoor scenery.
Three hours away is the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, where history buffs can take in many details of the historic journey.
