Hurricane Ike struck the Turks and Caicos islands hard Tuesday, tearing part of the roof off the new cruise terminal and uprooting landscaping. There was no reported damage to the cruise pier itself, but many buildings in the islands have been damaged, sources reported to Cruise Industry News.
Cruise ships were being diverted away from the Turks until the damage could be fully assessed and repaired. A schedule for when ships might return was not clear Wednesday.
