Onboard-NAPA is designed to cover the most demanding needs of both the onboard crew and the shipping company. To reduce the workload of ship officers, Napa introduces an electronic logbook and reporting system, the NAPA Log.
The NAPA Log is a totally new way of storing logbook and other data for creating reports ashore. Since part of the reported data can be captured from existing ship systems, like navigation or engine automation, the accuracy and the quality of the data are improved when compared to manual input.
Traditionally, parts of the logbook data are copied to various spread sheets for reporting purposes. All data entered into logbooks becomes useless for any further use. The NAPA Log combines all data sources into one database. The logbooks and other reported items are entered into one secure system, which then replicates all data to the shore system
-“All departments onboard access the same database, so duplicate entries are no longer done. When an entry is made on the bridge, it can also be viewed in the engine room. This configuration enables better communication between officers onboard as well as between ship and shore personnel”, says Paavo Kojonen, Product Manager, Onboard-Napa Ltd.
The NAPA Log is administered from the Shore Module. All new types of entries, new logbooks and user administration are done centrally from the shore system. No other tasks than entering the data are left for shipboard users, making the user training very simple.
Reports created by the shore system can be modified by the shore personnel. Necessarily, no NAPA engineering is needed for that. The shore database is also left open for accessing the data with 3rd party analysis tools.
The benefits of improved fuel and energy reporting from ship to shore will lead to an immediate reduction in consumption. The NAPA Log reports will help finding the strong and weak points within the fleet. A systematic follow-up of data is the first step for improvement.
