Star Posts Loss for 2006 Q1

The Star Cruises Group has posted a loss of $35 million on revenues of $509.6 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2006, compared to net income of $4.4 million on revenues of $415.5 million a year ago.

Revenue was up, driven by capacity and higher ticket prices and onboard spending for Norwegian Cruises Line, while Star Cruises suffered lower prices and occupancy. Operating expenses were up with higher fuel costs, higher payroll and start-up expenses in Hawaii.
