The Captain’s Log, Around the World with Cruise Captain Hans Mateboer is the title of a new book with a collection of Mateboer’s stories of funny happenings onboard. His articles have also been published regularly in the Cruise Industry News Quarterly since 1999.
“A cruise ship can be compared to a small floating city, and everything that happens there, happens on a ship as well . . . and more,” according to Mateboer, who claims that he did not make up the stories.
The book is a picture of his life, he said, and undoubtedly of many others who have spent considerable time at sea. The difference is that he can see humor in what most of us may view as ordinary, everyday events.
Mateboer who hails from the Netherlands, wanted to become a captain since he was a boy and first went to sea at the age of 19. During his career he has sailed under Dutch, Danish, British and Bahamian flag on many different types of ships. He is presently serving with Holland America Line.
He met his wife Lisa onboard and they live in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The 231-page paperback is $16.95 plus $2.50 for shipping and handling.
