Star Cruises Group has reported net income of $4.4 million on revenues of $335.4 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2001, compared to net income of $1.2 million on revenues of $190.8 million for the first quarter of 2000.
The Star Group includes Star Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), which was acquired in February 2000.
On a pro forrna basis, the group posted net income of $4.4 million on revenues of $335.4 million for the first quarter of this year, compared to net income of $2.3 million on revenues of $334.9 million for the first quarter of last year, according to Star.
The company attributed the revenue increase to a two percent increase in occupancy and a one percent increase in available capacity.
In Asia, Star Cruises increased its revenues 17 percent due a 10 percent increase in capacity and yields. Star said that its developed markets performed well and that there was an improvement in Thailand which was partially offset by a “reduction” in the Taiwan market and start-up losses in Japan.
NCL experienced a revenue decrease of 7.1 percent due to a 4.4 percent decrease in available capacity days, according to Star.
