AMCV 1998 Q1 Results

American Classic Voyages (AMCV) has reported a net loss of $4.4 million, or $0.31 per share, on revenues of $40.7 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 1998, compared to a net loss of $2.0 million, or $0.14 per share, on revenues of $40.4 million in the first quarter of 1997.

Philip C. Calian, CEO of AMCV, said that the results reflected the absence of three Super Bowl charters for the steamboats which the company had in the first quarter of 1997. It also reflected an acceleration of the marketing spending of more than $1 million in the first quarter of 1998 versus 1997.

AMCV also reported that American Hawaii Cruises is 85 percent booked for 1998 at an average rate of $207 per passenger night and that Delta Queen Steamboat Company is 69 percent booked for the year at a rate of $283 per night.
