Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCI) has reported net income of $75.9 million, or $0.95 per share, on revenues of $612.5 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 1997, compared to net income of $53.1 million, or $0.83 per share, on revenues of $366.2 million for the third quarter last year.
The earnings improvement was driven primarily by capacity increases resulting from the acquisition of Celebrity Cruises in July as well as additions to the RCI fleet.
The increase in revenues was attributed to the increase in capacity as well as an increase in yield, which, in turn, was attributed to a higher occupancy level.
RCI reported a total of 2,689,141 passenger days corresponding to a load factor of 107.6 percent for the third quarter of this year, compared to 1,593,716 passenger days, and a load factor of 103.8 percent in the same period last year.
