P&O Cruises has ordered a 76,000-ton, 1,800-passenger ship from Meyer Werft for $320 million.

The new ship will be delivered in 2000, joining P&O’s Oriana, which was built by Meyer in 1995; the Victoria; and the Arcadia (ex-Star Princess, debuting in November).

The new, yet unnamed ship, will also be targeting the U.K. market, and will offer worldwide itineraries.

While few details were released, P&O said that the new ship will offer a wide choice of dining and entertainment facilities and a large number of cabins, 45 percent of the total with private balconies.

By year 2000, P&O Cruises will thus have 5,800 berths and an estimated annual passenger capacity of 150,000.

With sister company, Princess Cruises, the combined fleet will number 17 ships and approximately 25,000 berths.
