Royal Caribbean to Build Third Sovereign

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will be building a third 70,000-ton, 2,500-passenger Sovereign of the Seas-sized vessel rather than a second 45,000-ton, 1,600 passenger Nordic Empress.

The Sovereign of the Seas entered service in January of 1988; the second sister ship, which is under construction at Alsthom Chantiers de l’Atlantique, is scheduled for delivery in March 1991, and the third in late 1991 or early 1992. All three will be based in the Caribbean.
