The new estimated date for completion of the 360-pax. Sea Venture of Sea Venture Cruises is now July 15 and the hopes of launching the vessel in Alaska this summer are dim.
Documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington show that “no assurance can be given that the ship will in fact be completed” by that date or that the cruise line’s new Calypso will be completed by its new estimated completion date of June 30. Sea Venture plans to launch the Calypso on a series of one-day sailings from an unnamed Florida port.
A spokesman for the Southeast Stevedoring Corp. ship agents in Ketchikan said that Sea Venture Cruises had yet to cancel its berthing places for a series of 10- and 11-day one way sailings between Vancouver and Anchorage this summer. He said that the ship agents weren’t realistically expecting the ship to operate in Alaska this summer but would save berths for the ship until the cruise line cancels them.
A spokesman for Sea Venture Cruises said that Chairman Anastasios Kyriakides was at the shipyard in Pireaus, Greece, at presstime and would return with a final delivery date within a week.
