CLIA Estimates Cruise Market at 30 Million

The United States cruise market consists of nearly 30 million passengers, including about six million repeat cruisers, according to CLIA’s latest assessment. This is reportedly 62 percent of all adults over 25 with incomes exceeding $20,000. (There are 46.3 million adults over 25 in this income bracket, but 12 million were reported to be neutral in their feelings about cruises. Nearly six million expressed negative opinions).

Geographically, the cruise market is reportedly distributed equally across the United States.

In its report, CLIA also noted that a greater number of younger adults, over middle-aged or senior consumers, have expressed interest in cruising. Men also were more interested in taking a cruise.

In other news, CLIA is planning an attack to eliminate the perceptions that cruise passengers are confined, gain weight, are old, get seasick and pay a lot for their vacation.
