Kosmos, the Norwegian conglomerate, has offered RCCL NOK 800 million, or approximately $100 million for 25 percent of the cruise line. Assuming an apportioned debt burden of NOK 160 million ($20 million), the offer is valued at approximately $120 million, giving RCCL a total market value of nearly $500 million.
The offer was rejected, but according to media reports, Kosmos is now considering a new bid for a third of the cruise line.
Net earnings for RCCL were $40 million in 1984, and are estimated to $40 million for 1985.
