Holland America Names Brian Johnson Director, Training and Development

Holland America Line has named Brian Johnson director of corporate training and development. Johnson will report to Brendan Vierra, vice president, human resources.

Johnson will be responsible for personnel training and development programs for fleet and land-based operations. These include ms Nieuw Jakarta, the company’s hotel school in Indonesia; the Culinary Training Program located in Manila, Philippines; an English language learning program for crew; and leadership development for fleet and land-based employees. Reporting to Johnson will be Matt Philipps, manager, training technology, and Sherry Murray, training technologist.

Most recently, Johnson was director of fleet training and employee relations at Princess Cruises, where he led global training and development as well as employee relations for the fleet. In this role, he built a training organization, launched a global corporate university program, established competency models and career succession plans, implemented a new-hire orientation program and launched an English language program. Prior to this role, Johnson served in a number of progressively increasing positions in training and sales management.

Johnson graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, with a master’s degree in speech communication and holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications. He currently lives in Seattle with his family.
